Food Allergy Fund Applauds MAHA Commission Strategy Report, Highlights Key Steps for Children with Food Allergies
Statement from Ilana Golant, Founder & CEO, Food Allergy Fund
New York, NY (September 9, 2025) – The Food Allergy Fund (FAF) applauds the MAHA Strategy report on children's health outcomes and supports its recommendations to protect and improve the lives of children, including the 1 in 13 living with food allergies.
The Commission's calls for FDA guidance on food allergy diagnostics and treatments, increased whole-child and microbiome research, drug repurposing, AI applications, streamlined FDA regulatory pathways, and improved food safety are critical steps that align closely with FAF's mission and priorities.
“We welcome the MAHA Commission’s call for the FDA to develop guidance on food allergy diagnostics and treatments,” said Ilana Golant, founder and CEO of FAF. "We are committed to collaborating and accelerating the science that will bring hope, better treatments, and a cure to the millions of children and families with food allergies.”
“The MAHA Commission’s call to streamline FDA pathways is both urgent and necessary to keep pace with today’s medical innovation. Regulatory delays keep families in fear that a single bite could trigger life-threatening anaphylaxis,” Golant continued.
“Faster access to breakthrough treatments and a cure is critical. That’s why FAF is committed to supporting health tech innovators—whether developing AI-powered wearable devices to improve diagnosis and detect early signs of anaphylaxis, or identifying already-approved drugs that can be repurposed to prevent severe allergic reactions. These innovations can only save lives if they reach patients quickly and safely.”
“FAF commends the recommendation on microbiome research, a critical pathway to understanding chronic disease and prevention. FAF is actively supporting studies in this area and looks forward to collaborating with federal agencies, policymakers, and healthcare professionals to accelerate progress. At the same time, FAF maintains its commitment to maximizing research impact by directing 100 percent of donations to cutting-edge studies while keeping indirect costs at 10 percent."
“The Commission’s emphasis on greater ingredient transparency will empower families by ensuring that allergens are clearly disclosed on food labels. Parents and caregivers need clear, consistent labeling to keep children safe at every meal."
