    Position: Intern 

    Location: New York City or virtual 

    Responsibilitiies: As a project fellow at the Food Allergy Fund, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our CEO and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of our organization. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Research: Conduct research on the latest opportunities and developments to support our programs and initiatives, partnerships, and institutional sources of funding. 

    • Event Planning and Project Management Support: Participate and oversee aspects of the planning, coordination, and execution of events, including fundraisers, awareness campaigns, and conferences.

    • General Administrative Support: Provide administrative assistance to ensure the smooth operation of our organization, including managing emails, scheduling, donor follow up, and other tasks as needed.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this internship should possess some background, education, or professional and/or personal experience in the following areas:

    • Sciences or medical research: A strong interest in or knowledge of scientific research related to food allergies is a plus.

    • Food allergies: Personal or professional experience with food allergies is highly desirable.

    • Non-profit development: An understanding of the non-profit sector and its operations is beneficial.

    Skills and Qualities:

    • Strong research skills.

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    • Attention to detail.

    • Effective written and verbal communication.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Proficiency in relevant software and social media management.

Through our groundbreaking research and unique thought leadership summits, we accelerate innovation to find solutions.

    We are seeking a Director of Research Programs (based in New York or remote) to oversee our scientific research portfolio and lead initiatives that accelerate discoveries from the lab to real-world impact. The role reports directly to the CEO. 

    The Director will manage all aspects of the organization’s research program — from strategic planning and coordination with the Scientific Advisory Board to grant administration and reporting. This individual will serve as the primary liaison between FAF, the scientific community, and partner institutions, ensuring that our investments in research drive measurable progress toward our mission.

    Key Responsibilities

    Research Program Leadership

    • Develop, implement, and oversee the organization’s research strategy in alignment with its mission and strategic plan.

    • Collaborate closely with the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to identify key research priorities, evaluate proposals, and monitor project outcomes.

    • Coordinate SAB meetings, communications, and review processes.

    Grant Administration & Research Management

    • Manage the full lifecycle of research grants, including drafting and issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), coordinating peer review, and overseeing award selection and administration.

    • Work with academic institutions and other research partners to develop and execute grant agreements, ensuring compliance with organizational and institutional policies.

    • Monitor grantee progress, review interim and final reports, and synthesize findings for internal and external stakeholders.

    • Maintain accurate and timely records of research investments and outcomes.

    External Relations & Scientific Engagement

    • Build and maintain relationships with researchers, universities, and other funding organizations in the food allergy and related biomedical fields.

    • Represent FAF at scientific conferences, symposia, and meetings to stay informed about emerging research and promote the organization’s work.

    • Serve as a scientific ambassador, helping translate research findings into accessible information for broader audiences, including donors and the public.

    Reporting & Communication

    • Prepare scientific and programmatic updates for the Board of Directors, donors, and external partners.

    • Contribute to fundraising efforts by providing technical input and research content for grant applications, progress reports, and communications materials.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in immunology, allergy, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.

    • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in scientific program management, grant administration, or research oversight — ideally within a nonprofit, foundation, or academic setting.

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and stakeholders with attention to detail and strategic focus.

    • Strong understanding of academic research environments, including IRB processes, university contracting, and research compliance.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with scientists, clinicians, donors, and lay audiences.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in allergy, immunology, or related fields.

    • Familiarity with federal or foundation grantmaking processes.

    • Experience working with a Scientific Advisory Board or similar governance structure.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Salary range: $125,000-$150,000 /year, based on experience and skills.
